Benfica crowned 2019 International Champions Cup winner….!

Winning all three matches, Benfica wins their first ICC title…...

NEW YORK(SMI-SPORTS,08.03.19)After Manchester United’s victory against AC Milan in Cardiff, UK at Principality Stadium resulted in 2-2 final score (5-4 in penalty shootout), Benfica wins the 2019 International Champions Cup.“The 2019 International Champions Cup was our most successful tournament to date, especially from a competitive standpoint,” said Relevent Sports Group CEO Danny Sillman. “We congratulate Benfica on their championship leading a remarkable field of the best clubs in the world.”

Benfica won each of its three matches, including a 1-0 win against AC Milan in Foxborough, MA at Gillette Stadium, where Adel Taarabt scored the only goal of the match in the 69 th minute, a 3-0 victory against Chivas de Guadalajara in Santa Clara, CA and a 2-1 win against ACF Fiorentina in Harrison, NJ.

“The International Champions Cup is the most prestigious pre-season tournament in the world featuring the most successful teams, there it means a lot for Benfica to win this title,” said Benfica President Luis Filipe Vieira. “It was a great experience overall for everyone on the team to have competed at the highest level in the United States, where we have great support from our legion of dedicated fans. We are delighted to have won this trophy and look forward to participating in the ICC again next summer.”

There are still two matches left in the tournament. Tottenham Hotspur and Inter will face off on August 4 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The ICC will wrap up in Sweden with a match between Atlético de Madrid and Juventus on August 10 at Friends Arena in Stockholm.
