FLUSHING, NY (SMI-GLOBAL-LATIN-SPORTS-NOV.23-24, 2024)-The NYCFC and NYRedBulls collided in a MLS playoff semifinals and first ever Hudson River Derby postseason knockout match with the RedBulls defeating the Cityzens 2-0, in front of a 25,000+ sold-out match at CitiField.
With the loss, The Boys in Blue got eliminated from the postseason play while the NYRedBulls advance to the MLS Eastern conference final to face the winner of the other Eastern conference semifinals between Orlando City Vs Atlanta United to be played Tomorrow in Orlando, Florida.
The much anticipated playoff-game between these two foes did not disappoint
the sold-out crowd who came to cheer for their favorite NY team at Citifield.
Both teams battled during the first 15' minute of the game till midfielder Felipe Carvallo scored from 25-yards away to put the NYRedBulls 1-0, at 16' mark. The play was originated from a long goal-kick by goal-keeper Carlos Coronel to the NYCFC's 20-yard line intercepted by defender Thiago Martins who cleared the ball with a header to Redbulls' defender Sean Nealis who with a header gave it to Carvallo who kicked a left-footed canon from 25-yards away to the upper-left goalpost corner for his second goal of the 2024 MLS playoff.
The NYReBulls kept the pressure and 8' minute later, forward Dante Vanzeir increased the lead of 2-0, with right-footed to the far goalpost that ended in back of net, sending the team and the NYRedBulls fan in a wild celebration.
The goal was originated through a corner kick by Emil Forsberg who centered the ball on top of the 6-yard box line bouncing-off Felipe Carvallo to Vanzeir who scored his second goal of the playoff to the opposite goalpost to seal the 2-0, win
for the NYReBulls over the Boys in Blue.
NYCFC finished the season 14-8- 12, while the NYRedBulls advance to the Eastern Conference final game for the first time sinnce 2018, to play the winner of the Orlando City vs Atlanta United Next weekend .
