CONMEBOL COPA AMERICA USA 2024 (SMI-GLOBAL-SPORTS-JUNE 20-JULY 14, 2024)-World#14, (FIFA) & 15-time Copa America champions " Uruguay " overpower Panama 3-1, in opening match of Group C, claiming its first 3-points and victory of the tournament @ Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
Uruguay, also known as "La Celeste" is one of the top-contenders to win the 2024 Copa America under the command of its new head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Marcelo Bielsa is a renowned Argentine Football (Soccer) professional head coach who is regarded as one of most influential head coach of all-time.He recently with Uruguay defeated Brazil (2-0), and Argentina (2-0), back-to back in the Conmebol South-American 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification matches and currently are in second place with 13-points behind Argentina in the standings.
"La Celeste " went to the attack from the start and pressured for the first 14' minutes of the game with numerous counter-attacks till Maximiliano Araujo opened the score at 16' mark to put Uruguay in front 1-0, over Panama.
In a counter-attack through the left-side field, defender Matias Vina kicked a short pass to Maximiliano Araujo who shot a 20-yard curvy looping left-footed to the upper right goalpost corner that ended in back for 1-0, Uruguay and sending the crowd wild in celebration.
In the second half, "Los Charruas " controlled the midfielder and kept the pressure to score more goals with consecutive offensive attacks till the second goal arrived through forward Darwin Nunez at 85' mark.Midfielder Nicolas De La Cruz centered the ball inside the 18', bouncing-off Panama's defender Michael Murillo body to D. Nunez who scored with a left-footed volley to the lower left goalpost to increase the lead of 2-0, for Uruguay over Panama.
With the game clock winding down, Nicolas de La Cruz centered a free kick inside the penalty box finding Matias Vina who scored with header to the lower left goalpost to make it 3-0, in stoppage time 90+1, and sealed a 3-1, win for Uruguay over Panama.
